Belize is a rather young country, founded out of the colony of British-Honduras in 1981. It is the only country of central america where english is the official language, though many people only speak spanish. The inhabitants are a cultural mix descending from african, british and mayan culture.

Unfortunately I did not spend a lot of time in Belize as it a very expensive country compared to other central american countries or Mexico. It is however worth a visit especially because it has such a different feel than the other countries, there is just that “Yaaa Maaan” vibe in the air, a little bit of Jamaica as far as I am able to say since I have never been in Jamaica :)

Besides it’s beautiful carribean coastlines, beaches and islands there is also remains of ancient Mayan cities like the ruins of Lamanai just to name one of many.

Snorkeling on Caye Caulker island was a blast, I saw huge turtles, amazingly big stingrays and sharks as well.
