After going through various type of naked bikes (see previous bikes)  I decided in 2012 that my Kawasaki Z1000 was just not made for travelling. I remembered my fascination for the big enduros back in the late 80s (Africa Twin, Tenere) and decided to go for one of the big enduros, the R1200GS (2011).

In 2014, with the plan to travel more and also enjoy more offroad riding I was beginning to doubt that a 240kg enduro full of electronics was the one for the job. Sure GS’ have gone round the world before but travelling by myself with such a heavy bike can be demanding when things get a bit more challenging.

So I started to look for alternatives with less electronics, known reliability and less weight. I was looking into buying an africa twin (probably the most reliable motorbike ever built) but it was not much lighter than my GS. So I had to look in a different engine size category. And after some research topped with some persuasive talk of a friend I found my new bike:

Suzuki DR 650 SE
